O Ônibus-Biblioteca é um projeto idealizado por Mário de Andrade em 1935 e que foi retomado pela Secretaria Municipal de Cultura em 2007. Inicialmente, seu roteiro na Vila Medeiros era feito às 2ªs-f, mas depois de uma revitalização e renovação das frotas, há duas semanas passou a ser aos Domingos, e com horário estendido.

Segundo João Batista Neto,bibliotecário do ônibus e supervisor do roteiro, o projeto é uma extensão do Sistema Municipal de Bibliotecas, e tem como objetivo estimular a leitura em adultos e jovens das regiões periféricas. Os livros são voltados à literatura, mas há também os de pesquisa. Nos acervos dessas bibliotecas itinerantes existem gibis, revistas, jornais, livros clássicos e lançamentos.
A praça onde o ônibus fica parado no centro da Vila Brasil. É um local muito próximo de comércios e onde muitas pessoas passam, por isso tem um público bastante diversificado. Após fazer a carteirinha, o usuário pode retirar até cinco exemplares e ficar com eles durante uma semana. Caso seja necessário, pode ser renovado na semana seguinte. Na Vila Medeiros existe um grande índice de devolução e de cuidado com os livros.
