Cerca de 15 pessoas compareceram à primeira oficina do projeto SP 2040 na Zona Norte, na região da subprefeitura Vila Maria/ Vila Guilherme. A idéia do projeto é que, se algo assim tivesse sido feito em 1980, talvez a cidade hoje, 30 anos depois, tivesse um número menor de problemas.

Leandro Fraga, técnico da Fundação de Apoio à USP, entidade contratada pela prefeitura para gerir o projeto, conduziu a oficina. A primeira etapa foi com três perguntas de opções, a serem respondidas individualmente pelos participantes, sempre pensando na "cidade que queremos em 2040". De uma série de itens apresentados, os presentes tinham que escolher as três prioridades a serem atingidas.
Na sequência o pequeno grupo de participantes foi dividido em dois, para discutir e relacionar as principais ações, visando vencer os seis desafios que levariam a uma nova situação na cidade: aproximar moradia e emprego, recuperar a qualidade ambiental, prover infraestrutura urbana adequada, promover a inclusão social, promover a produtividade e a competitividade, e ampliar a capacidade de investimento.
Segundo Fraga, 10 anos é pouco tempo para uma megacidade enfrentar seus desafios gigantescos. Para ele, ainda que isso pareça um pouco distante, 2040 vai chegar, e o que se puder planejar desde já, poderá inclusive trazer benefícios antes desse prazo de 30 anos.
